You Reap what You Sow

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap;’ Galatians 6:7

It has been rightly said that the home is a child’s first classroom. I spent much of my childhood in the home of my grandparents who lived just yards frommy house at Walker Creek, Arkansas. I received avaluable early education listening to my grandparents’ stories and wisdom. They were faithful members of their local church where my grandfather served as a deacon for thirty-seven years.

My grandmother told us stories from her childhood and the lessons she learned from life. One of our favorites was the story she told of planting corn. I can still hear her sharing her wisdom: “When I was agirl, there was little time for play. We worked drawing water from the well, carrying stove-wood and working in the field. One thing we really loved to do in the summer is go swimming in the creek. One Saturday my dad had us planting corn seed, and he said if we got all our seed planted, we could go swimming. We were so excited to go to the creek, but the seed had to be planted first. Then we had a great idea, or so we thought. We dug a hole in the ground and planted our corn seed, all in one hole. Now we could go tell my dad all the corn had been planted and we could go swimming. We thought we were smart, that is, until the seed we planted came up, all in one place in the ground. What we had sown had come back to haunt us!”

Paul reminded the Galatians that actions have consequences. Our free will makes us able to choose, and our responsibility is to choose wisely. Seeking God produces a harvest of life and goodness. Seeking the flesh and the world produces pain and loss.

FINAL THOUGHT

The harvest is a time of Joy.Keep sowing and know that others will water, but only God can give the increase.
