Always Forgive

“Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not,” Luke 17:9.

I really love being a dad. My son and I have a great relationship. However, there have been a few times that he gets too big for his britches and forgets the pecking order in our relationship. Sometimes we forget that we are the servants, and that God is the Master. The servant is to do the will of a master. It is not the servants place to tell a master what to do and how it should be done. We also have a tendency to think because we have done what the master has told us to do that we have done something special, deserve a reward or at least should get a thank you.

So what is it that the Master has commanded us to do in this text? God has commanded us to forgive. We are to forgive seven times in a day if necessary. In another passage, He says to do it seventy times seven meaning to always forgive. Jesus emphasized forgiving others as a command and necessity for a right relationship with God. Furthermore, He says it is our duty to forgive.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Is there someone you need to forgive? Do it immediately. Unforgiveness is like a poison to the well-being of a person who carries it.
