The Testimonies of Simeon and Anna

“And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ,” Luke 2:26.

A few years ago, the phrase “bucket list” permeated our society. Presumably inspired by a movie by the same name, it seemed like everyone was talking about their bucket list. A bucket list is a list of things you want to accomplish in your life before your life is over. Apparently, it takes its name from the idea of someone kicking “the bucket,” a slang phrase for dying. For instance, you may want to go skydiving before you die. Thanks to that trendy phrase, that goal would be on your “bucket list.” And even though I got tired of the overuse of that phrase, I have been guilty of talking about a bucket list myself.

But my bucket list is somewhat atypical. For instance, my mother passed at a young age. One of my prayers to God was that He would allow me to live longer than her if He chose. Thankfully, God has blessed me with that privilege. My mother also passed before she had grandchildren. It is extremely important for me to become a grandpa before God calls me home. I think I would truly enjoy that experience, and I pray if it is God’s will, that He will give me an opportunity to be a grandparent.

The Scriptures tell us that Simeon would not see death until he had seen baby Jesus. The Bible does not say the same thing about Anna, but I have always read her account with the same consideration. Personally, I think all she wanted to see before she died was Jesus Christ. God blessed them both with that opportunity. What a bucket list!

JUST A THOUGHT

Everything Jesus did was ultimately for you. How much of your life do you make about Him?
