Little Is Much, When God Is in It
“When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten,” John 6:12, 13.
My parents raised me to be a problem-solver, one of those people who finds random objects around the house to create a costume or design a new game. This skill comes in handy in the classroom especially when teaching math. Even with all of my experience making something out of nothing, I know I would have just looked at Jesus dumbfounded as he suggested feeding dinner to a sea of people. Andrew, as skeptical as he was, at least gathered what he could find, never expecting the end result out of something so little.
You read about this miracle the other day in Luke’s account. This must have been the most widespread and talked-about miracle performed by Jesus to be the only one recorded in all four of the Gospels. It was the most public display of His power as there were probably well over ten thousand individuals gathered since the Bible mentions there were five thousand men. I can barely get twenty-four students to listen to instructions, much less an entire stadium of people. I often wonder how the conversation went between the disciples, Jesus and this lad as they gaze over the giant crowd of listeners. I want to believe this innocent child overheard them talking and sweetly offered his food as a solution to their problem. Everyone listening knew the five loaves and two fish were nothing compared to the crowd, but in the hands of Jesus, the small offering became over and above.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Let God work miracles by offering everything you have to Him. Nothing is too small for Him to use in a mighty way.
