Jesus Resurrected a Dead Girl

“While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master. But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole,” Luke 8:49, 50.

We live in a world of many beliefs. Some, I can understand. I may not agree with you, but I can probably understand (to a point) how you arrived at your belief. Some ideologies completely escape me, and perhaps you as well. I find it very hard to believe that a crystal can make me healthy. If I had a doctor named Crystal, then maybe. Likewise, I understand there are some people who consider a holistic approach to medicine, but it is difficult for me to disregard hundreds of years of medical research and breakthroughs in my own treatment.

I marvel at the things that people believe. I am amazed at the lengths they will go to because of their beliefs. But these same people who have tremendous faith in the ridiculous have no faith in God. If you talk to them about salvation through Jesus Christ, they find Him and His gospel unbelievable.

Jairus came to Jesus pleading with Him to heal his daughter. Jesus started toward Jairus’ home and was interrupted by a woman with an issue of blood that she had dealt with for twelve years. Jesus healed her and then continued toward Jairus’ home when a messenger came with the news that the daughter had died. Jesus’ response was, “Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole” (verse 50). When all hope was gone, Jesus brought hope and healing.

JUST A THOUGHT

The little girl in our text was resurrected because Jesus told her parents to “believe only,” and they did. Do you?
