Amos’ First Sermon

“The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord God hath spoken, who can but prophesy?” Amos 3:8.

The Bible says that the Lord uses weak things of the world  to confound the things that are mighty. First Corinthians 1:27, “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.” The prophet Amos was one such person who could be described as a small or unknown prophet that God used. Amos was not a person that every one knew in the city where he lived. His work did not keep him in the public eye.
Amos may have seemed irrelevant in the eyes of the world, as he was relatively unknown and working in a desert place. Amos was a herdsman of Tekoa, a city located near Jerusalem, described as a desert area. God used this unknown herdsmen as a prophet to deliver a major message to Israel. The Lord assigned a message to Amos to give Israel regarding their turning from the Lord and to reveal to them God’s judgment that the Lord was going to bring upon them.
There are times that the Lord gives you a task that you may feel that you are not qualified to do or you may think you are not strong enough to accomplish. The task may be sharing God’s Word with someone you do not know, teaching a class in your church for the first time, or confronting an issue that needs to be resolved. When the Lord speaks to your heart to do something in service for Him and you are in harmony with Him then the Lord will empower you to accomplish the task. You can be confident, if what you are doing or saying is right in the sight of God.

FINAL THOUGHT
You can do all things when you use God’s strength according to His will.
