The Attitude About Jesus’ Mission
“But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!” Luke 12:50.
When I was a young boy growing up in Canada, our new church would have baptisms in different venues because we did not have our own building. On one occasion, we used a swimming pool at a golf club. A man being baptized that day was very overweight. When my father went to baptize him, he was much more buoyant than expected. He had to be baptized twice because he did not go all the way under the first time. Some may think that was unnecessary, but there is an important picture. Baptism in reality speaks of being completely immersed, overwhelmed or consumed by something.
Jesus was consumed with fulfilling His mission. His overwhelming purpose would be what we now call His “passion.” He would be immersed in great suffering and pain in order to finish His task upon the cross. This baptism was in the forefront of His mind and it would be His divine great fulfilment of God’s plan. He was in a strait and could not do anything else but what He was called to do!
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Are you distracted? Have you been lured by many trivial and temporary things. Be like Jesus and keep the main thing the main thing today!
