The Stability of a Parable

“Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away,” Luke 21:33.

I still vividly remember the first time I saw the Mona Lisa in person. I was surprised at how relatively small the oil painting really was. The Mona Lisa is without question the most famous painting known to man. About ten million people visit the Louvre Museum in Paris to view the painting annually. It is estimated that eighty percent of the Louvre visitors are there solely to view the painting.

Painted by Leonardo da Vinci in the early 16th century, her mysteriously charming smile is obviously still relevant. Timeless things are those things that remain valuable and relevant, transcending time periods and cultural contexts.

God’s Word is timeless. It will always be valuable and relevant. Many preachers and teachers may not be relevant but if they preach the Word of God rightly divided it will always be relevant. Unlike the Mona Lisa, God’s Word will never pass away. One day, by some means, the Mona Lisa will be gone but God’s Word shall not pass away. God’s Word will always be alive and powerful and able to convict men of whatever their needs may be in God’s eyes. The Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God will never lose its sharpness.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Take a moment and reflect on this truth and what it means for you. God’s Word is always relevant, always valuable and will never diminish nor pass away.
