Receive My Words and Live

“Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye. Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart,” Proverbs 7:2, 3.

The phrase “my son” is found twenty-four times in Proverbs. It is always followed by the counsel to listen and obey the father’s instructions.  Even though Proverbs was written from a father to a son, all would do well to listen and give heed to these instructions.

Solomon had a deep desire to teach his son the ways of the Lord. The title of this devotional is the whole basis of your walk with God. As His child, you have the responsibility to receive God’s Word and live it. If you have had children or been around children for any length of time, you know they are prone to disobedience. This is why children need to be reminded about the things they should or should not do.

You are God’s child, and He is telling you to receive His words, which is His Word. Since you also have the flesh nature, you are in a battle. The battle is to decide to receive and to obey. The Word of God is often forgotten, that is why you should study it daily. With a daily reminder of what His Word says, He will help you to remember it.

As Solomon told his son to keep and bind these words upon his heart so they will not be forgotten, you also should spend time memorizing and meditating on the Word of God. This will keep you from trouble and give you life more abundantly as Jesus said in John 10:10. True life comes from knowing and obeying God’s Word.

Verse four says wisdom should be as a sister and understanding be as a relative. The most important relationship you can have is with the Lord. You should treat it like a relationship you have with a close sibling or relative.

Something to Think About.

How does your relationship with the Lord compare to John 14:15?
