Jesus Restored a Sick Woman
“And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: they faith hath made thee whole; go in peace,” Luke 8:48.
We live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and if you ask anyone what they remember most when they visit, they will say the traffic. There are definitely too many people with too many different driving styles for the roads we travel daily. A fifteen-minute drive could take up to an hour depending on the day. I think the most frustrating occurrence is when drivers slow down to check out why the other side of the highway has slowed down. There could be a forty-five-minute delay on a clear eastbound highway, all because a car stalled in the westbound lanes and people are curious.
Jesus now had a reputation around Galilee. Surely, word had spread of Him healing various diseases and calming the storm. When the people in each village heard He was passing through, they crowded around Him hoping to see something miraculous. The crowd proved to make their travel to Jairus’ house difficult. No doubt Jairus was anxious to get there as soon as possible, and then Jesus stopped in the middle of the crowd and demanded to know who had touched Him. Peter said what everything was thinking in their confusion when he told Jesus that several people had touched him. Being Jesus, He absolutely knew who it was, but wanted to give the woman an opportunity to confess her faith openly. He might have even made eye contact with her as everyone else searched the crowd. The woman, trembling and penitent, stepped forward.
Maybe she did not believe she was worthy to speak to Jesus or even look upon Him, and that is why she touched the bottom edge of His garment instead of asking for help as Jairus did. The difference between this woman and the crowd was her faith.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Jesus’ words to the woman apply to us today. Be of good comfort. Your faith and His power are what makes you whole.
