The Promises

“And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the Lord thy God,” Amos 9:15.

Amos 9:11 starts with a transition from destruction, “the sword” (verse 10) to a promise of restoration. God promised through Amos that David’s house would be restored by raising it up from the ruins. This is a beautiful picture of God doing a work of a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), letting the old die and making something brand new.
Many years before Amos, the Northern Kingdom had rejected the house of David but the Lord will not let it lie in ruins. He will keep His promise to David and raise up the kingdom that seemed to be in ruins through the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
Verse 13 describes an abundance in crops so much so that the planter “shall overtake the reaper.” This portrays that the agriculture will be nonstop. Planting and harvesting continually. This is unheard of among our modern farmers. The farmer looks forward to a short break between the cultivating of the crops and the harvesting. Although there is planning for the planting after the harvest which gives the farmer another break from the hard labor, this will not happen during the time for which Amos referred.
Not only did Amos mention the abundance of the crops, but he referred to the people being brought back and established in the land, also. God has promised to restore the people to the land which is a great reason for the abundance of crops.
No matter how bleak it may seem to the world today that Israel will be restored, God always keeps His promises. This promise will be kept in an unbelievable way to the people of the world. The world wants to destroy Israel, but God will restore the nation of Israel as He has promised.

REFLECTION
The Lord will keep his promises to Israel and restore the nation.
