The Search for the Lost Coin

“Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?” Luke 15:8.

In this simple parable, Jesus painted a vivid picture of a woman who loses one of her ten silver coins. Though she still has nine, the one that is lost is of such value to her that she lights a candle, sweeps the house, and searches carefully until it is found. Her diligence and determination show us the heart of God toward the lost.

The coin in this story could not find its way back. It was lost in the dust and shadows, unnoticed by the world, yet precious to the woman. Likewise, when we are lost in sin, we cannot find our way back on our own. But God does not wait for us to come to Him—He comes searching for us. He lights the candle of truth, sweeps through the corners of our hearts and seeks us with divine love and patience.

This parable reminds us that we are never insignificant to God. You may feel forgotten, overlooked or unworthy—but to God, you are as valuable as that lost coin. He rejoices not just over multitudes, but over each individual who is restored to Him.

And just as the woman rejoiced when she found her coin, God rejoices when one soul turns to Him in repentance. That is the depth of His love—a personal, passionate pursuit of each of His children.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

Let this story encourage you today. If you are feeling lost, know that God is searching for you. If you have been found, take up His mission: be the light, help sweep away the dust and search diligently for others who need His grace. Because every soul is worth the search.
