The Attitude About True Fear

“And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him,” Luke 12:4, 5.

Fear is a natural human response. We fear losing loved ones, financial instability, sickness and even death. However, Jesus teaches us to shift our fear away from temporary, earthly dangers and focus on the One who has ultimate authority—God Himself.

The world threatens us with suffering, rejection and even physical death. Yet, Jesus reminds us that those threats are limited. They can harm the body, but they have no control over our eternal destiny. What, then, should we truly fear? We should fear the Lord—not with a terror that drives us away, but with reverence that draws us closer.

The fear of God is not about being scared of Him but acknowledging His supreme power, holiness and justice. This fear leads to wisdom  and compels us to live righteously. Proverbs 9:10 says “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” When we properly fear God, we will not be intimidated by the world’s pressures. Instead, we will stand firm in the faith, knowing that our lives are in His hands.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

Are you living with misplaced fear? Jesus calls us to trust in God rather than be paralyzed by the fears of this world. Let us choose today to live in the fear of the Lord, which brings peace, wisdom, and eternal security.
